Safety is Important to Us!

We take safety very seriously at FYN. We are here to help teenagers, and keeping them safe is central to who we are. When you look at some of the steps that we take to ensure safety, you may even think that we are going overboard; but our goal is to ensure that the teenagers we serve are safe.

1. All FYN employees and regular volunteers will undergo thorough background checks.

2. All FYN vehicles are equipped with cameras and GPS tracking.

3. Meetings will be held in carefully selected, safe places.

4. Though mentors may not be trained counselors, they will receive training regarding certain important topics, including ethics and risk factors to watch for.

5. Our database of client information will, as long as is feasible, be kept on computers which would be kept offline, with limited access, to ensure data safety.

6. Pictures of the teenagers will be stored and sent only to the drivers for the sole purpose of ensuring that the correct person will be picked up.

7. Pictures of the drivers and the vehicles will be shared with the clients, ensuring that they are not picked up by the wrong person.

8. Sensitive information (address, etc.) will not be shared even with the mentors, unless pertinent and necessary.

9. We have consulted with psychologists, lawyers, pastors, school administrators, and police officers, among others. We will continue to monitor our program to ensure that we are doing everything that we reasonably can do to ensure safety.

10. Meetings between clients and volunteers will be recorded. Some meetings may also be monitored by FYN employees. Teens and their parents will be aware of the recording and monitoring.

11. Our organization will be properly insured.

12. We will be open to inspection by police, schools, parents, and other individuals with valid reasons, while ensuring confidentiality.
